Artistic Team

  • Jason Bakaas (He/Him)

    CO-ARTISTIC DIRECTOR / CO-FOUNDER

    Jason Bakaas is an emerging performer, director, writer, and puppeteer in Calgary, Alberta. As a performer, Jason has been in productions all over the city. Some of his favourite credits include Benny (Rent) and Chadwick (Elf) with Storybook Theatre, one of Canada’s most successful TYA Theatre companies, and Princeton (Avenue Q) with Front Row Centre Players, a role for which he won an award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role at the Calgary ACTS annual CAT Awards. Other acting credits include The Prince/Beast (Beauty and the Beast), Prince Charming (One Bad Apple) with Morpheus Theatre, Peter and Others (The Rumble Follies) with Life Stages Theatre at the Calgary Fringe Festival, as well as roles in productions of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Annie, The Wedding Singer, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Footloose. On-screen, Jason has appeared in the first season of FX’s Fargo, and Vertical Entertainment’s Still/Born. As a director, Jason has led productions with Untold Stories Theatre for the past three years and has received accolades for several productions, including the winner of Outstanding Direction for a Musical and Outstanding Production of a Musical for The Wind in the Willows in 2022 and nominations for the same awards for Rodgers and Hamnmerstein's Cinderella in 2023.

    Jason attended the Alberta University of the Arts (then known as the Alberta College of Art and Design) for a degree in Media Arts, with a specialization in Video and Sound design.

  • Gad Gijon (He/Him)

    CO-ARTISTIC DIRECTOR / CO-FOUNDER

    Gad is proudly a Mexican performer and director in Canada and Mexico. In Canada he has been involved with many different companies. Select credits include: Storybook Theatre: Matilda (Rudolpho) and Annie (Ensemble). With FRC: Addams Family, The Wedding Singer, Avenue Q (Choreographer), Evita, Spamalot, and Priscilla Queen of the Desert (Jimmy). With Morpheus Theatre: HMS Pinafore, One Bad Apple (Choreographer), and Princess Ida (Guron). And with St. Peters Players: Mary Poppins (Choreographer).

    In Mexico Gad worked as a director, performer, choreographer and stage manager. His select credits include: A Chorus Line, Rent, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Wonderland, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast.

    Gad studied ballet at UNAM, and holds a degree in Acting with a major in Dubbing. He was the Artistic Director of the Theatrical Company Gato Encerrado for 12 years. Through the years he has had the opportunity to be a television host for educational TV for the Secretariat of Public Education.

  • President | Jason Bakaas (He/Him)

    As a co-founder of Untold Stories Theatre, Jason is driven by the vision of cultivating an environment marked by inclusivity and artistic development. His passion for the theatre is what led to the need to create a safe space for those who have yet to be seen but deserve it nonetheless. With a lifelong dedication to the arts, Jason approaches his craft with a profound sense of enthusiasm, poised to infuse Untold Stories Theatre with a rich tapestry of experience, compassion, and creative ingenuity. With a comprehensive education spanning both Fine Arts and Performing Arts disciplines, Jason is eager to contribute vibrant narratives and new perspectives to the vibrant theatre scene in Calgary.

  • Vice-President | Nicole Dickinson (She/Her)

    Nicole’s passion for the stage was ignited 20 years ago in a fourth-grade play, setting the foundation for a lifelong commitment to the arts. As a graduate from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama, Nicole excels in producing, directing, acting, and stage management. Beyond theatre, she actively contributes to film and television as a crew member on various sets and as the creative producer of a family-founded production company. Nicole is excited to bring creativity, industry insight, and a deep appreciation and love of the performing arts to the forefront of Untold Stories Theatre’s mission.

  • Secretary | Britta Siemens (She/Her)

    Britta grew up in the theatre community in Steinbach Manitoba performing on stage until finding her passion working behind the scenes in costume design and hair and makeup. In recent years she costume designed The Wind in the Willows and RH Cinderella with UST. Hair and makeup for The Boy from OZ and Avenue Q with FRC, and Shakespeare in Love with Morpheus. Britta is excited to be a part of UST and looking forward to helping with community theatre growth and support in Calgary.

  • Treasure | Ali Grams (She/Her)

    Ali Grams (she/her) is an emerging artist and administrator located in Calgary (Mohkinstsis). She first began her involvement with Untold Stories Theatre in 2023 as an Ensemble Member and Ella’s Understudy in Rodger’s & Hammerstein’s Cinderella. She currently works as the Development Coordinator at Vertigo Theatre. You can also catch Ali occasionally princessing, stilt walking, and acting around town. Most recently, she played Mary in Mary’s Wedding by Stephen Massicotte at Confederation Theatre & Third Draft Theatre. Infinite love and gratitude!

  • Chair of the Board | Gad Gijon (He/Him)

  • Marketing and Communications Director | Alina Cox (She/Her)

    Alina provides strategic marketing and communications support for Untold Stories Theatre. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, she earned her BA in Communications Studies at the University of Calgary and has since worked in communications, digital marketing, and events across academic and hospitality industries for over five years. She has been a part of the local theatre and arts community for over 20 years and has performed with the Youth Singers of Calgary, Storybook Theatre, Front Row Centre Players, Vocal Motion Chorus, YYC Princess and Maven Movement. She continues to study music and dance and enjoys giving back to the community.

  • Director at Large | Michelle Rawlings (She/Her)

    Michelle is originally from the UK and trained at the London School of Musical Theatre. She began her professional career working for Royal Caribbean Cruise lines as a featured singer for over 10 years. She moved to Calgary in 2018 and has been involved in the Theatre arts community since her arrival, performing in such Story book productions as Elf & Matilda, and with Theatre Calgary in Billy Elliot & Ragtime. Michelle believes Theatre is the essence of culture, providing platforms for storytelling and giving the community a voice by exploring a wide variety of experiences, ideas and emotions. She’s ecstatic to contribute to the local theatre community on a broader scale as a member of the board of directors with Untold Stories.
