What you can expect from an Untold Stories Theatre audition
We understand that the audition process can be very nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time. At Untold Stories Theatre, our mandate is that your potential is at the forefront and that includes during your audition. Here’s what you can expect during a UST audition:
When you arrive
When you arrive at the audition space, you will be greeted by someone from our team.
You will be asked to fill out an audition form should you have forgotten to submit one beforehand!
Don’t be afraid to ask our UST team member any questions you may have!
Once you’ve filled out the form you may take a seat and wait for your name to be called.
Feel free to warm up, but make sure you’re not distracting any other auditioners who may be in the space.
We recommend you show up at least 5 minutes before your audition time so that you have time to prepare yourself to audition.
The Audition
Once it’s your time to audition you’ll be called into the room to meet the team!
The Directors, Musical Director, and Stage Manager will be present in the room, and you may see our Producer and Choreographer as well!
The first part of the audition will be your performance.
Remember to do your best at showing us who you are, we’re all rooting for you!
If you make a mistake, don’t worry - we know you’re nervous and that’s okay! All auditioners may be asked to perform again with a re-direction from the team so we can see more of you if we need.
The music director may check your range by having you sing along with some notes on the piano.
This is not a determining factor in whether you get in to the show or not, it is just for us to know your voice.
After you’ve performed you’ll be invited to have a short conversation with the team.
This is for the team to get to know you better as a person, it’s not a formal interview, so don’t worry!
Now is a great time to ask the team any questions you might have about the show.
The audition will only take approximately 7 minutes.
Once the audition has been completed, our directors will give you some final information entailing when you will hear about any potential callbacks and to who you can direct any post-audition questions.
After this moment, your audition is complete and you are free to go!
What to bring with you
A bottle of water
The backing track for your song. We will not have an accompanist or piano available.
A device to play your music on for your audition (i.e., phone, iPod, mp3 player, etc)
We should have an attachment for both newer iPhones and Android devices, but bring one with you just in case!
Any questions you have about the show or the process
Your best sense of fun!
Our biggest advice to you
Have fun and be as confident as you can! Trust us, we’re just as nervous as you are! We want the process to be as relaxing and enjoyable as it can be for you. Remember that we believe everyone has an untold story inside of them, and this is your moment to tell it to us!
