Untold Stories Theatre is seeking performers from Calgary and the surrounding area to audition for Male On Stage Swings our production of Hello, Dolly!

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

• All auditioners are asked to submit a video of:

  • A 16 - 32 bar cut of a musical theatre song that you love to sing (preferably in the style of the show)

  • A short introduction of yourself, including what skills you would like to grow during your time in the show.

• Please fill out an audition form including your video link.

  • Please upload your video to YouTube as an unlisted link.

ABOUT ON STAGE SWINGS

As a swing, your job is to learn several ensemble tracks (and sometimes a few larger roles, depending on the show) so you’re ready to jump in if someone in the cast can’t perform. You are part of the ensemble every night, though they may not be in every scene. Your regular track is designed so that you are not involved in things like set changes, lifts, or partnered choreography—this ensures you can step into another role at a moment’s notice without leaving a gap in the show. On-stage swings take a bow with the cast every night.

At Untold Stories Theatre, swings are incredibly valuable cast members who are trusted to learn multiple ensemble (and sometimes larger) roles and be ready to jump in wherever needed.

Swings are expected to attend all rehearsals for the tracks they’re covering to observe blocking, direction, and choreography. While one-on-one rehearsal time isn’t guaranteed, if there’s time in the schedule, the team will do their best to let you try out what was covered.

We’re looking for strong singers, dancers, and actors who are reliable and adaptable—people we can count on to help keep the show going no matter what. It’s a great chance for experienced performers to grow and challenge themselves in a new way.

PRODUCTION DATES

Rehearsals          

March 1st - June 4th, 2026

• Tuesdays & Thursdays: 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.

• Sundays: 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Tech Days

June 7th - 11th, 2026

• Sunday: 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.

• Monday - Thursday: 6 p.m. - 11 p.m.

  • All cast is required for all tech days, including load-in on Sunday, June 11th.

Shows

June 12th - 27th, 2026

• Weekdays & Saturdays: 7 p.m.

• Saturdays & Sundays: 2 p.m.

  • Shows on Tuesdays and Wednesdays are tentative and will open dependent on ticket sales. If there is no show on those days, an understudy put-in rehearsal will happen. Even though shows are tentative, it is expected that all cast and needed crew be available for this day.

All cast members must be available for all of tech week and all shows.

Because theatre is a collaborative process, it’s important that everyone involved can commit to the rehearsal schedule. Cast members are required to attend at least 90% of all rehearsals. All known conflicts must be listed on your audition form and should be finalized prior to casting. The production team will do their best to accommodate conflicts shared in advance, however, please understand that an excess of conflicts may influence casting decisions.
